Can not a single person on Reddit just say that they like streetwear because they like having interesting looking clothes, and not want to look like everybody else? Why does everybody have to have a self esteem issue just to wear cool looking shit? This gives a horrible name to the streetwear community. Not all of us are depressed 13 year olds trying to find some to fill some kinda daddy void in a pair of Acne jeans. That’s like saying you have to feel oppressed to appreciate listening to Tupac.

dude it’s reddit where they all ride narhwals eating bacon or someshit while fighting off 1 horse sized duck while scrolling through unoriginal content all while stroking their terrible neckbeards with their fedoras jauntily atop their heads.

Short answer is no.

I know Reddit has a tonne of low self esteem nerds and stuff, but this is the modern day, plenty of totally normal people use Reddit too. I think this article is just highlighting all the negativity around streetwear instead of discussing anybody positive.

I see your point but…can not a single person on Reddit just say that they like streetwear because they like having interesting looking clothes, and not want to look like everybody else? “Not want to look like everybody else” most people that are into streetwear wear the same ass shit yeezys, supreme, FOG ect. And you over here talking about not wanting to look like everybody else

You know if you look at the percentage of kids who actually wear streetwear compared to the general populace, it’s tiny right? And if you want to get into brands like FOG, 99% of kids can’t afford that. Most people are wearing mallcore shit or cheaper labels. I have yet to walk into a highschool full of kids rocking FOG.

Yeh but I’m not talking about the population as a whole I’m talking about the population of people that wear streetwear. And I’m not saying all kids wear FOG, I’m saying that it’s popular in streetwear, I used it as an example. when you think of streetwear you think of supreme and bape and other brands that pertain to that market right? You know why you think like that? Because a large majority of people that wear streetwear related clothing buy from those brands

K Remy I’m talking about the population as a whole, most of which don’t wear streetwear. My initial statement was a lot of kids get into streetwear cuz they don’t want to look like everybody else, as in the rest of the population, as in mallcore brands. Then I stated Reddit is highlighting all the negativity around that saying they must all be low self esteem losers, when in fact I believe a lot of them just want to wear shit that’s not mallcore.

your initial statement said that kids get into streetwear because they don’t want to look like everybody else but when they get into streetwear they look like everybody else that dresses in streetwear, that’s a pretty large amount of people don’t ya think?

I’m aware that streetwear has become a popular thing these days, but it’s still pretty niche in the grand scheme of what every kid is wearing these days. If you include skate clothing etc in streetwear though, I know what you mean. Plenty of kids in highschool these days are wearing thrasher and vans etc. But when it comes to like the more baller stuff like FOG etc, that’ll always remain a niche market just because at that level they’re really investing in actual fashion priced clothing

Yes! I do agree with you that brands like FOG, Balmain, CDG do pertain most to a niche market because of cost. However you can’t deny that people that wear these brands dress similar. It’s like supreme and adidas to the non exclusive streetwear market.

By dress similar do you mean FOG sets the trend then the lower end brands copy it, then the kids interested in streetwear wear those clothes? Cuz yes that is correct
