He has alot of interns getting paid 10-15$ an hour. I know some personally and I know people that they have offered the designer job to who have turned it down. Most of his team has no experience or are FIDIM grads which pretty much means they are useless . He works out of a warehouse close to Calabasas not Paris.

It’s and industry thing and probably where he thinks he’s being discriminated on. If you’re a seasoned designer 80k is a junior designer salary on top of that, what will it really do for your career. It is not positive if you go from working with actual brands that create revenue to working for someone who doesn’t have a clue and is destined to fail. With most of these celebrity brands they are used to thinking money can buy anything or because they have money they put pressure to get stuff done on a ridiculous time scale but in the industry no one gives a shit about that. They only care how many units you are ordering, that’s clout. Ye can’t compete with Forever21 who’s ordering 100k units but he still wants his stuff today and works off schedule for the season he’s in. He is designing the clothes I’ll give him that but the people executing for him have no clue or the balls to tell him what he doesn’t know. Like sorry Ye you can not get a whole new sample with wash in 24hrs or that we are getting ripped on production becase our units are so low that we can’t book capacities at the last minute. It’s not discrimination it’s business 101. Again it’s just the tip of the iceberg but either you are going to run it like a business or keep ordering sample quantities and reffering to it as a collection/ production.

What would be even more valuable is a list of the 30 people he fired and what their positions were, and why they were fired. What percentage of these guys were his friends, hired via nepotism and what percentage just wanted to ride the Kanye payroll? Fuck it I woulda accepted $100K if he paid me to work for his show too.

But he only paid his top designer 80k

Wowww, ok this explains a lot.

Do you have any additional information on how much his design team was paid, and how many people were on it? Where did you find that stat? I’ve been trying to get more info on who actually works with him.

Do you know why he won’t just hire higher level designers who are actually skilled? Does he actually design the clothing or just have the junior designers submit designs, then he picks the ones he likes? Why did he choose such an inexperienced team of students instead of getting some higher level industry help? Are no qualified designers willing to submit to him for 80K a year?

You’re very insightful. Thank you for informing all of us of the truth, it’s greatly appreciated. I work in the industry and I’ve heard rumours from specific buyers and staff about this kinda stuff going on but you just confirmed it for me. Do you have any other vital information about any other workings in the industry right now?

80k a year for a designer based in NYC is literally nothing to get excited about – maybe it’d make sense if you were confident the show would be a success and you could snag your next gig off of the hype (very possible), but knowing that your CD would be an unabashed megalomaniac you could easily find a better paying gig with far less stress and bullshit.

Do you know how much guys like Demna were getting paid at their previous luxury house gigs? Like closer to $200k or something?

He isn’t designing anything. He only approves the designs. Ive been one of those designers before. Not for Yeezy, but another streetwear brand.

I’ve been saying this. “I am the Steve Jobs of fashion” – says everything.

How many other designers were on your team, and was it for a proper label or for a celebrity label?

Because he’s cheap. He knows hiring people at high fees means he has to actually sell his stuff in mass.
